After a visit to H-Mart, Sanzo’s founder, Sandro Rocco, noticed there was a clear separation in the beverage aisle between the “American” products and the “Asian” products. He wondered why there weren’t any products that bridged this gap. In 2018, Sanzo, an Asian American-inspired sparkling water brand was born.
At The Working Assembly, we were asked to create a visual identity and package design that would stand out on the shelf. Knowing that Sandro is Filipino-American, we did some digging into the visual culture of the Philippines. We were inspired by the aesthetic of jeepneys, a traditional Filipino street taxi that is often covered in bright lettering, patterns, and graffiti.
